Partial comments from one of the group members:
"General:
When planning my trip to
Borneo I knew that I wanted to concentrate on wildlife
endemic to Borneo.
With
that being said I gave Jodi my wish list and she came up with the perfect fit
for what turned out to be one of my adventures of a lifetime.
My
expectations
were exceeded for all aspects of the trip
from the flight on Korean
Airlines
to our final hotel stay in KK not to mention all of the FANTASTIC wildlife
viewing
in- between.
Danum Valley:
This
primary rainforest exceeded all of my thoughts on what the rainforest should be
like.
I have been in numerous rainforests before but nothing topped the
discoveries that awaited me here.
The enormous 300-400 hundred year old trees and
the diversity of wildlife.....
Again, tours were perfect in length and spaced
throughout the day. Our guide was always willing to go on as many hikes as we
desired.
BRL personnel always put safety and preservation first.....

CLIENT REVIEWS:
"Really great staff
at each location. The orangutans at Rasa Ria were amazing :) and the jungle
rangers were very friendly and open.
Being at
Kapalai was like being in a movie; living out in the middle of the ocean,
watching turtles come up for air, while sitting on our back deck.
Fabulous dive
team, each dive master was attentive, and very knowledgeable.
Guyana was
the perfect last stop on our vacation; relaxing, out in the jungle, on the
water, good food, good drink.
Your
overall feelings about your visit:
By far, most amazing vacation.

Newly
discovered species place Sabah as a top eco-tourism destination
Sabah
has further bolstered its status as an eco-tourism haven with the recent
discovery of 123 new wildlife species. Sixty-seven plants, 29 invertebrates, 17
fish, five frogs, three snakes, two lizards, and a new species of bird were
discovered in Borneo by the Heart of Borneo project of the World Wildlife Fund
for Nature. A lungless frog, a frog that flies, and a slug that shoots love
darts (pictured above) were among the recent finds. Most of the species were
found in Sabah, which occupies the northern part of Borneo.
Wildlife studies made by National Geographic revealed that 10 square kilometers
of Sabah has more flora and fauna than North America and Europe combined. The
state also belongs to the Coral Triangle, which contains three-quarters of the
world's marine biodiversity.
ABOUT MALAYSIA
Danum
Valley Conservation Area: Danum River flows through
Sabah's largest protected Lowland Rainforest - with 43,800 hectares of pristine
and undisturbed tropical flora and fauna in the eastern part of Sabah.
This pristine rainforest is also home to more than 340 species Birds, 120
species of Mammals, 72 species of Reptiles, 56 species of Amphibians and a
staggering 200 species of plants per hectare.
Kuching:is a fascinating city to walk through & a photographers paradise… many little streets where you'll see carpenters, furniture makers and
tinsmiths working in their open front shops and right on the sidewalk.
Kuching, the capital city of the "Land of the Hornbill" has a charm
unlike any other Malaysian town. This is the place to head for if you’re
thinking of lazy strolls in market places, drinks by the riverside, old world
charm and some fine shopping.
There are old,
picturesque Chinese Temples, Malay Mosques & Hindu Temples. Colonial buildings dating back
to the Dutch colonization of Malaysia. The streets are lined with typical
eating establishments called "coffee shops" where you can stop for
delicious coffee, and fresh tropical juice drinks.
The main street, easily
accessible from your hotel is lined with craft & antiques stores stocked
with handicrafts (weaving, beadwork and woodcarvings) representative of the
indigenous tribes in Sarawak.. There is another area nearby lined with jewelry
stores crammed full of 22 & 24Kt gold jewelry from mines in Sarawak...The
prices of everything are unbelievably low and quality high.
Stroll down the
beautiful "Kuching Waterfront Promenade" where you can spend an
enjoyable time watching the little sampans cross the river, see fantastic
sunrises and sunsets... take a yacht for a sightseeing cruise.... or sit and
relax while enjoying a meal or tropical drinks...
There are free museums
representing some of the ethnic cultural histories..the Sarawak Museum is
known for the best ethno-botanical collection of historical and ethnic
artifacts..a history buff could easily spend several hours or a full day there.
A short drive from the city you can visit orangutans, and proboscis monkeys in the native habitat, a beach resort and a “living musueum” where the major
indigenous tribes are represented in life-size replicas of their homes, displaying the arts, crafts and music of the various tribes. They put on a cultural show 2x daily including the instrumentation,
dance and blow pipe skills of their people.
Mulu Caves
(Borneo) Mulu National Park
Sarawak: On
the island of Borneo, visitors can tour some of the biggest and longest
cave passages in the world, all within a single cave system. The Mulu Caves
beneath Mulu National Park were carved out of limestone over millions of years,
and so far, 125 miles (200 kilometers) of underground cavern have been
explored; it's possible there's three times that distance waiting to be
discovered
The
Mulu Caves boast several honors. According to the Sarawak Forestry Department,
Mulu has the largest the largest cave passage in the world, in Deer Cave; the
largest chamber, Sarawak Chamber; and the longest cave in Southeast Asia in the form of Clearwater Cave
The
cave system offers tours for everyone from beginners to experienced spelunkers.
Those looking for a real expert experience can attempt the 10 or so hours of
total darkness required to navigate Sarawak Chamber.
